At the University of Utah School of Medicine, he developed a passion for research and innovation earning multiple national and international awards for his work. There he became fascinated with the anatomy of the eye and by the broad spectrum of systemic disease that affects eye health.
Prior to his ophthalmology residency, he completed an internship in general surgery at the Oregon Health & Science University. He then moved east where he completed training in comprehensive ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota. He was selected to complete a prestigious fellowship in cornea and external disease at the Cincinnati Eye Institute – a national referral center for complex ocular surface disease.
"I chose to pursue a career as a cornea and ocular surface transplant specialist as I was drawn to the precision and technical challenge of the field. I enjoy developing relationships with each of my patients and forming a treatment plan tailored for their individual needs. Ultimately, the greatest reward is seeing the significant improvement in the quality of life of patients who have had their visual function restored.” - Dr. Martin de la Presa, MD
